Hi, I’m Patrick. I make Aloglot. It reads you books in the language you are learning: the words light up as they are read, the English sits under every sentence, and any word explains itself when you tap it.

There are books at every level in 93 languages, from a first sentence to a novel, and you can have a story written about whatever you are into. It is free to start.

Why stories

I speak a few languages, best to worst English, Spanish, Japanese and Korean, and I have done it the usual ways: the textbooks, the flashcards, the streaks. What actually moved the needle was reading and listening to things I wanted to understand, with a dictionary within reach.

That is how everybody learned their first language, and the research says it is how a second one goes in too. The front page has the short version and the blog has the studies, with their sources.

The hard part was never the idea. It was that reading in a new language is slow when every third word sends you to a dictionary, and listening is hopeless when you cannot tell where one word ends and the next begins.

Aloglot is my attempt to take that friction out: the voice and the text together, help one tap away, and nothing that stops you to quiz you.

Me

Before this I co-founded another language learning app, was an early leader at Replit, and worked on voice AI. I live in San Francisco with my wife and our dog, and I read a lot.
